The historical roots of the Backas Kartano manor go back to the 16th century when it was a founded as a horse farm.

The manor has seen all kinds of changes and reforms during its long history but you can still feel the warm atmosphere of the
past times.

During the Winter War when the general manager of Elanto Väinö Tanner was the Foreign Minister in Risto Ryti's Cabinet, the Cabinet held its meetings in the main building of the manor. The manor premises were also used when the State Archives were decentralised during the Helsinki bombings. Today, the historical artefacts in the upstairs rooms for group work tell their own silent story.
